Erna Nygård
VP for Institutional Affairs Specialization: Institutional Strategy, Governance & External PartnershipsErna Nygård is Vice President for Institutional Affairs at the Institute for Advanced Dynamic Uncertainty, responsible for IADU's governance framework, strategic institutional partnerships, and all external engagement with sovereign bodies, central banks, and peer research organisations. She holds a PhD in Economics from Universitetet i Oslo — the University of Oslo (Department of Economics), where her doctoral research examined the design of institutional mandates for sovereign wealth funds under long-horizon return objectives and intergenerational equity constraints. Her thesis provided a formal analysis of the conditions under which rule-based governance structures outperform discretionary frameworks in the management of large public capital pools — a question that remains directly relevant to the institutions IADU serves.
Before joining IADU, Nygård held a senior research position in the Research Department of Norges Bank — the Norwegian central bank and the institutional home of Norges Bank Investment Management, the world's largest sovereign wealth fund. Her work at Norges Bank focused on the analytical foundations of long-horizon investment policy, the governance of public pension funds under demographic uncertainty, and the interface between macroeconomic policy and sovereign capital allocation. This experience gave her an operational understanding of how the largest sovereign institutions in the world evaluate research, commission analysis, and translate quantitative frameworks into governance decisions.
At IADU, Nygård leads the Institute's engagement with its most significant institutional relationships. She oversees the development of research partnerships with central banks, finance ministries, sovereign wealth fund managers, and international financial institutions, and manages the Institute's publication, subscription, and consulting activities. Her role is to ensure that IADU's research reaches the decision-makers who can act on it — and that those decision-makers understand precisely what the Institute's analytical standards mean in practice. She represents IADU in institutional forums and serves as the primary point of contact for sovereign clients seeking to commission or subscribe to IADU's output.
